Why winter breaks are beneficial!

What are the first words that come to mind when you think of a holiday? Is it sunshine, beaches, suntans, sunbeds, Spain…..? Most people when they think of a holiday tend to think about a sunny holiday by the sea, possibly even abroad. However, people don’t just need holidays in summer, winter breaks are definitely something to consider too, especially with the benefits a winter break could bring.

Here are some of the benefits of a winter holiday:

  1. Save money by going off-peak – according to research holidaying in off-peak times can be a great way to save money and get the break you want for a fraction of the price!
  2. Health Benefits – there are obvious health benefits to taking time out to relax and de-stress, but if you also choose a winter break where you will get some good winter sun your body will definitely be boosted by the extra vitamin D this brings.
  3. Winter can get you downtrodden! – With the days getting significantly shorter, and colder many people’s hormone balance and biorhythms can be impacted. This can lead to bad moods, a lack of motivation, and irritability. However, if you have a winter holiday booked to look forward to this can lift the spirits and help you keep in a positive frame of mind to get through the winter months.
  4. Escape the crowds – generally in winter not only do there tend to be fewer tourists but also more availability at holiday accommodations sites too.
  5. You can revel in ‘Hygge’ – This is a popular Danish concept that means creating a warm atmosphere and enjoying the good things in life with good people. Getting together to enjoy cosy social gatherings and intimate get-togethers is a perfect way to banish any winter blues!
  6. It helps reduce the symptoms of SAD – Unfortunately many people every year get hit by SAD, or winter depression, however, many have also found that by booking breaks away during what can be the worst months for this condition, they have been able to manage the symptoms better.
  7. Relax and tuck into winter treats – one of the best parts of a winter holiday is tucking into lots of winter treats! Whether it’s seasonal delicacies or mince pies, this is the perfect time to sit back with your feet up with some nibbles.

With these sorts of benefits, why wouldn’t you want to book yourself a winter break!
